2 lbs lean hamburger
1 small onion, diced
1 cup plain bread crumbs
1 tsp salt
½ tsp pepper
2 Tbs brown sugar
¼ cup heavy cream
¼ cup milk
2 cups shredded cheddar, divided
½ - 1 Cup mild picante sauce to taste (optional)*
Preheat oven to 350 deg.
Combine ¼ cup of the cheddar and the rest of the ingredients.
Mix well by hand in a large bowl.
Press into a 1.5 Qt glass loaf pan making sure there are no void areas in the pan.
Bake 55 mins.
Spread remaining cheddar over the top and bake additional 20 mins.
Remove loaf from pan and let rest 5 mins.
Note: The grease in the pan can be used to make brown gravy.
